Help:Namespaces

From the Dixwell Dossier
Jump to: navigation, search

On MediaWiki sites, a namespace is a prefix recognized by the software, followed by a colon. In the case of the main (article/profile) namespace, however, nothing precedes the title.

The Dixwell Dossier—and practically every other Referata site—currently feature 28 assigned namespaces:

  • (Main)
  • Talk
  • User
  • User talk
  • Project (The Dixwell Dossier)
  • Project talk (The Dixwell Dossier talk)
  • File (Image)
  • File talk (Image talk)
  • MediaWiki
  • MediaWiki talk
  • Template
  • Template talk
  • Help
  • Help talk
  • Category
  • Category talk
  • Property
  • Property talk
  • Form
  • Form talk
  • Concept
  • Concept talk
  • Filter
  • Filter talk
  • Widget

  • Layer

In addition, there are two virtual ones: Special and Media.

  • Special pages are built into the MediaWiki software, and cannot be edited.
  • Media pages are essentially the same as File pages. As Wikipedia states, "The Media: namespace can be used to link directly to a file, rather than to the file description page. It does not work on redirects: the link must be to the file's true name."
