About this character
Violet is a ring-tailed cat, and one of the main characters in Marigot Magic. Her father, Steven, was born and raised in Arizona; her mother Karen grew up in Lithuania. During the course of the story, she befriends young Guadeloupe raccoon Samson and helps him trace the owner of Ironstone, an unreleased 1930s film—only after coming to terms with the unrequited love she has gone through.
Third Koch iteration. Status number: 2 (Commons), 3 (Ingermanson). Snowflake profile (see also Draft Central/Outline)
One-sentence summary
A ring-tailed cat is forced into finding the owner of long-missing film footage—by the family reunion invitee she has a crush on.
One-paragraph summary
Violet, a free-spirited ring-tailed cat living in Marigot, falls for family reunion invitee Samson at the start of summer vacation and spends the first few days with him. Sam invites her to search for the owner of Ironstone, an unreleased 1931 film—which puts a damper on her usual summer activities. Even during a boat ride to Fernando de Noronha, Violet wants no part of it and ignores his pleas—and then Sam shows his lack of interest in her.[1] To satisfy his needs, she reluctantly takes him to Africa—Guinea-Bissau, to be precise—but the death of the footage owner's assistant holds them back for a few more days. Once they return in one piece, Violet helps the owner settle scores with her old friend, Bernard, and her sister Corinna.
  1. Sam considers Anita, a cat of Malagasy stock, his real love.
Motivation Goal
To enjoy a hassle-free summer. To give Sam a helping hand in film Ironstone's owner.
Conflict Epiphany
Sam's unquenched desire to get the film back where it belongs; the unrequited love that develops between her and Sam. Learning to go with the flow, and realising the importance of the proverbial "friends in need".
